Case Study: MITEM and TIBCO Build e-Business Infrastructure for GE

Background

GE set out to prove how traditional brick-and-mortar firms with established infrastructures could increase productivity and margins faster than dot-com competitors. The company's goal was to deploy, at one of its subsidiaries, the first phase of a global infrastructure that would include two new e-Business Web sites. The infrastructure was built with MitemView legacy integration software and the ActiveEnterprise™ line of e-Business infrastructure products from TIBCO Software.

Their ERC subsidiary is one of the world's largest reinsurance firms and a premier global provider of risk solutions. With $8 billion in revenue and employing 4,000 employees worldwide, ERC offers property and casualty, life, health care, and professional liability insurance and reinsurance, and other risk management services.

Integration Challenge

MitemView's task was to connect the IBM mainframe environment to TIBCO's ActiveEnterprise infrastructure, which, in turn, integrates the company's enterprise systems with each other and with the reinsurance Web site.

Results

The new reinsurance e-Business Web site allows casualty underwriters to renew facultative contracts in as little as five minutes, a process that used to take up to five days using traditional methods. It significantly reduces processing time and allows the agents to work more efficiently with customers.

The other e-Business Web site was developed to give physicians valuable functionality and features such as "loss history" analysis that enables them to understand the liability environment and access risk management tools.
