Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Selects
MITEM for New eHealthPlan Initiative
MitemView to automate myriad
mainstream transactions in new infrastructure
MENLO
PARK, CA - September 24, 2002 - MITEM Corporation, a leading provider
of legacy integration software and e-Business solutions, today announced
that Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (HPHC) has selected MITEM's signature
product, MitemView, to support a key element of its strategic eHealthPlan
initiative.
This initiative, launched last year by HPHC President and Chief Executive
Officer Charles D. Baker, is allowing the company to manage more of
its transactions across a wide variety of electronic media including
the Web. HPHC's goal is to deliver unsurpassed service to all of its
constituents - providers, members, brokers and employers - including
better data to support high-quality, cost-effective health care.
Because HPHC's infrastructure is based on several different legacy systems
that contain data about all of the company's various constituents, integration
of these applications is an essential step toward realizing the goals
of Baker's eHealthPlan initiative. MitemView will play a significant
role in the new infrastructure by integrating legacy applications and
by automating myriad mainstream transactions.
"We knew we needed to acquire the appropriate integration tools
so we could begin to handle automated transactions. In addition, we
wanted to build an infrastructure that could extend services beyond
the legacy environment out to our external constituency via the Web,"
commented Lawrence Rapisarda, Chief Technology Officer for Harvard Pilgrim
Health Care. He added: "MitemView's non-invasive approach to legacy
integration coupled with its message broker capabilities gives us the
flexibility we need for immediate projects wins and for future potential
changes to our infrastructure."
MITEM impressed the HPHC's development team during a proof of concept
demonstration (POC) by quickly capturing control of the Hewlett Packard-based
Amisys system and creating a programmatic interface. The POC involved
performing a query against an existing provider, entering a new provider's
data into the system, and modifying data of an existing provider from
a Web browser. "MitemView's performance was impressive during the
POC. It took only milliseconds to perform the several transactions we
requested. Another product we tested took over 20 seconds to perform
the same number of transactions," stated Rapisarda.
HPHC plans to have 2 MitemView-based legacy integration projects underway
by end of Q4, 2002. The development team is exploring a set of candidate
projects that will eliminate manual processes in critical business areas
such as claims and credentialing of new providers.
